Crazy Canuck Smokers - Heather Brynaert - Port Dover Ontario

EXHIBITION!!!! RIB STAND SPECTACULAR!!!!

This review won't be put to the 25 point/5 star test due the fact this was a Rib Stand at the CNE. I don't usually review rib stands, but this time I had to. I go to the Ribfest every year, and this year I didn't get around to going, so I was very pleased to see the rib stands at the ex on Labor Day weekend. I had a chance to try both rib stands that day, and to my understanding these stands win trophies for the votes given by the people eating the ribs, and just from the cost of the ribs, most families, or anyone for that matter can usually only afford one rack of ribs, and will usually find that all ribs at any ribfest will be fantastic if they have been invited to attend such a function. The votes will usually be given to the one ribstand they ate from, and not to the one the thought was the best since they don't get to try them all. In my case since I was able to try all the ribs, and make a decision based on taste, and of course texture, I was able to establish that Heather Brynaert owner of the Crazy Canuck Smokers did indeed have the best ribs. I loved the bbq sauce on them, not too hot, or too sweet, traditional flavour, I loved that they keep it real, and my ribs were very saucy, plenty of sauce to get my fingers into. The meat was tender and fall off the bone. I have been cooking and ordering pork more and more often lately, and for those who don't know, pork now a days being more lean, and clean, does not need to be cooked so long, and it's done in about 6 minutes, so it is very easy to overcook, or over grill pork. These ladies did any amazing job! Not dry at all, or tough. Heather Brynaert is absolutely fabulous, loves her work, and take ribs to the next level while keeping taste, and texture a priority. I eat a lot of ribs Heather, and when I had yours, I knew I just  had to tell the world!!! You can look for Heather Brynaert and her team of Crazy Canuck Smokers in Port Dover Ontario, yes that's right, Port Dover, the place where all the bikes gather every Friday the 13th, locals, and imports from Orange County, Heather and her crew will be there serving their fantastic ribs, and of course the traveling Ribfest around Canada, mostly Ontario each summer. You can check them out during the Toronto Ribfest held in Etobicoke, in Centenial Park each year on the Canada Day long weekend.

.0 STAR - I expected my food to be ready shorlty after we got there. We pre ordered a 72oz steak for a birthday, but they didn't start it until after we got there, they said it would be ready 30 minutes after we all arrived, but it was more like 45 mins. (It was a Saturday night, very busy as well) We waited long enough for the bill that our waitress only noticed we hadn't gotten it until she saw us getting ready to leave.

.1 STAR - Cutting this in half because we actually asked for a piece of the steak to be cut off and cooked well done for one of my party members, and the rest be cooked medium, that was done without an issue. However we also mentioned that the seating they gave us being so close to the window was actually very cold, they said they couldn't move us because the dining area was full, but said they would crank the heat, after a few minutes I could feel the heat coming down but my friends sitting by the window ate with the winter coats on. My waitress forgot about the extra we asked for but otherwise was a delight.

.1 STAR - Loved the setup, felt like I was in a western movie, but like I said our table was freezing, when a friend moved from her window seat to sit beside me, the cool air started penetrating me, I guess she was blocking it for me all night until she moved, I realized then how cold she must have been sitting there for 2 hours.

.2 STAR - 2 Handicap washrooms located upstairs on main floor, and wide area to easily move a wheelchair through withouth risk of bumping into other tables.

.2 STAR - Food was very tasty, we had the steakm calamari, sweet potato fries, baked potatoe, Sante Fe chicken sandwich, and on another oaccasion I ordered the ribs (best I ever had)

.2 STAR - not only was the 72oz giant steak cooked to how I ordered it, they gladly cut a piece off and cooked it well done for a friend who wasn't into the pink middle. Everyone was happy, the fries were tender, and nobody complained about the food.

.2 STAR - Serving size was good, we did have a pretty big steak that we shared, however on another occasion I had ordered a rib plate, and that too was big enough to satisfy my hunger. Fountain drinks here are bottomless! Always a plus.

I call myself Raddish online here, it is a childhood nickname that rhymes with my last name. I eat out quite a bit, and pay attention to a lot of details while in the venue. Here you can check out on my blogspot what I have to say about local venues in Toronto, and Mississauga and well the GTA. I go to a lot of all day breakfast places, and for dinner I usually try the Salmon, or Steak, Baby back ribs, or Seafood Linguine. Here is my list of points to consider when rating a restaurant. I don't just taste the food, and say I liked the place or not. I have a very diverse list of ways of rating the venue on a 5 star scale. The 5 points are Wait Staff,  Restaurant, Food, Pricing, and the Overall Impression. There are also 5 sub points to each point which helps me decide whether or not to give them a partial star or full star or no star for that main point.

As you can see, even if the customer service was horrible, it is still possible to get 1 Star, so be sure not go by star ratings done by those who do not have a system they use to figure out how many stars they will give. In this blogspot not only will you see how many stars I have given each venue, but you will see for what I have given them for, and my comments on points that stood out.
